Elections/Candidates

Residents will have a chance to meet and hear from the candidates at our Meet the Candidates Night which will be held in the Clubhouse Ballroom on June 20th at 7 PM. Light refreshments will be available. Each candidate will introduce themselves and answer a couple of prompts from the Nominating Committee and then we will take questions from the Audience as time allows. We will reserve some time for questions regarding the election process as well. We will be working on new technologies too to allow residents to participate in a Zoom meeting of this event.

Voting will open the next day, June 21st, and go through the morning of July 8th. Our SCA Annual Meeting will be held on July 8th in the Clubhouse Ballroom at 7 PM.

The truest benefit to an emailed ballot is that the website does the work for us and tallies the votes in real time and saves us from an incredible waste of paper, the element of human error in hand counting, and the number of people that would need to be involved to complete the count.

With all this new process, I encourage residents to continue to read their Newsletters however they come to you for updated information and if you are a part of our email list, watch for updates through email from Summerfield as well as Vote HOA Now.

Facilities management included security, housekeeping, landscaping, repairs, project management of remodeling and building projects; emergency team training and coordination; and coordination with the Board of Directors. Please provide a brief biography about yourself and why the Community will benefit from your service on the Board (previous experience, etc.).

My name is Charles Coiner. Since the 3rd grade I have gone by the name Chuck. I grew up in California, lived in Colorado, Utah, and now Oregon. Oregon has been the best place of them all.

I received my degree in 1972 from Cal State Dominguez Hills. My dual majors were History and 20th Century Thought and Expression. The next year I earned my Education Credential, and in 2004 received a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Weber State University.

For 40 years I was involved in classroom education. I taught every grade from 1st – 6th. During that time, I dealt with a vast variety of different personalities, beliefs, abilities, and biases. I learned how to deal successfully with them all.

My greatest strength will be the ability to listen, and empathize, to both sides of a conflict, and then work for a decision. Decisions I make will always center on what is best for the Summerfield Community.

My wife, Paula, and I moved to the Portland area in October 2009 from Rochester, NY. Our parents were deceased, and our grandchildren were living in Hillsboro. We researched real estate in 2008, selecting Summerfield as our probable destination, as the experience felt like living in a park, and property values were maintained by reasonable CC&R rules. We enjoy swimming, ballroom dancing, and gardening, in which we became integrally involved soon after arriving in our new residence near the end of Highland Drive, by the Rose Garden. We have served our neighbors as house cleaners and handyman for 13 years, as well as serving on several Committees and Clubs to promote positive values and assure quality community living, which we now wish to continue, if given the opportunity to serve on the Board. We

are active in SW Church for Christ, the Summerfield Bible Study, and the Art Guild, and support development of community sustainability.

We are world travelers but wish to better serve our beloved community at this time while we are still healthy, mentally, and physically able to serve our community.
