Summerfield Welcome Committee
The purpose of the Welcome Committee is exemplified by its name! Initiated many years ago and supported by the SCA Board, this Committee takes seriously its task of offering information about the Summerfield Community, sponsoring a Welcome Reception for all new residents, and encouraging involvement in the Community by these new residents.
A comprehensive packet of informational materials is put together by the Coordinator who receives notification of new residents from the Summerfield Office. These packets are then distributed to the new residents by one of nineteen committee members, each of whom represents a geographical area in Summerfield. The committee member usually meets with the new resident in person and encourages them to attend one of three Newcomer Welcome Receptions held each year to enable the new residents to tour the Clubhouse and meet other residents also new to the community.
The Welcome Receptions are held in April, July and October in early evening hours. Often representatives of clubs, activities and committees will attend to explain their interests. Refreshments are served after the tour of the Clubhouse to make sure everyone knows about the facility offerings including the kitchen, library, card, exercise, and ping pong rooms. All new residents receive a written invitation to the Receptions and are encouraged to attend at a later date if they are not been able to attend their invitation date.
