Art Fest

Art Fest is Summerfield’s yearly event celebrating our community’s artistic talents.  It is held in late September at the Summerfield Clubhouse.   This arts and crafts show always draws crowds to its fabulous exhibits of paintings, photography, needlework, quilting, china painting, watercolor demonstrations, crafts, a writer’s corner and a colorful garden section of flowers and plants.

And that’s not all.  There are exhibits of our residents’ special collections such as antique tools and toys, buttons and golf balls, even collectible cars.

Various Summerfield clubs and a host of volunteers run the event.  Much of the art work crafts and some plants are for sale, as well as items from the many exhibits.

A special feature of the show is the yearly raffle for the Tigard High School Art Scholarship.  Last year a handcrafted quilt donated by the Quilters Club and a painting by resident Jack Allen were raffled for the scholarship.  There are many outstanding students who vied for the award.  Among their talented group, two are awarded the scholarships.

The date for the show is always announced in the Summerfield Summary newsletter in the August and September issues.  The 2009 Art Fest will be September 26 and 27.
